Magnetic Scrap 430 solids grade is classified under the ferritic family of stainless steels. Ferritic stainless steels are magnetic and not hardenable by heat treatment. An extremely valuable and commonly used type of stainless steel, ferritic stainless steels are thinner and weigh less than many other types of ferrous steels while still maintaining greater strength than that of carbon steels.

The chemical composition of magnetic scrap 430 and solids is nominally 17% chromium with balanced iron and no nickel content. It has good ductility, and it is slightly hardenable by cold working. Magnetic, with good ductility and good resistance to corrosion and oxidation.

Grade 430 also has excellent resistance to nitric attack, which makes it well suited to use in chemical applications.
